The days are getting longer and the weather is starting to warm up. It’s finally time to start thinking about getting rid of the old and bringing in the new with Spring Cleaning! According to Wikipedia, the definition of spring cleaning is the practice of thoroughly cleaning the house in the springtime.
During the 19th century in North America and Europe, the very practical tradition of Spring Cleaning was primarily performed in March when it was warm enough to open windows and doors and dust the dirt outside. Too bad the vacuum cleaner had not been invented yet! We’ve come a long way since then but we still believe spring cleaning is essential to refresh your home and get ready to gather in the warmer months. Here are 5 tips to spring clean one of the most important (and busiest) rooms in your home, the kitchen!

Edit your tableware, cutlery & linens: It’s time to take a look at what you have and get rid of anything that’s outdated or damaged. If there are pieces that you don’t use very often, store them away in a box or cabinet until the following spring. This will make room for fresh, new items that will surely make your summer entertaining more enjoyable.
Organize your kitchen by categories: This will help you when it comes time to put things back where they belong. Categories can include: pots and pans, dishes and silverware, spices, food storage, linens organized by color, etc.

Store large items somewhere else: If you have a lot of big kitchen appliances that take up a lot of counter space (like mixers, blenders, toasters, etc.), put them away in a cupboard or pantry until you need them. This is a great way to declutter the countertops and make your kitchen look much bigger.
Add color: A great way to brighten up your kitchen is to add some color! This can be done with new dish towels, glassware, rugs, or even paintings. Try a bright-colored vase or bowl on your kitchen table. Fill them with fresh flowers or fruit from the local farmers’ market.

Maintain it: Once you’ve spring cleaned your kitchen, it’s important to maintain it! This means wiping down surfaces after you use them, putting appliances away and doing a deep clean once a month.
